New Mexico Jiu-Jitsu Academy is committed to teaching self-defense to adults and children. The core techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu were developed to give smaller, weaker opponents an edge when fighting more powerful attackers, making it an especially useful martial art for young people. With that in mind, we have developed our bullying prevention program to provide kids with the skills they need to protect themselves – usually without ever having to fight at all.
The Importance of Bullying Prevention
Every month, over 3 million kids skip school out of fear of bullies. This is why we teach a special curriculum designed to prevent bullying and empower young people to defend themselves when necessary. Ours is a defensive technique, teaching kids how to avoid a fight if possible and how to neutralize the threat until help arrives if a fight does occur.
Our Techniques to Prevent Bullying
Our bullying prevention plan provides techniques for both physical self-defense and mental/verbal self-defense. Most bullying occurs verbally, and this type of abuse can be very damaging. We teach kids how to stand up for themselves, including what to say and how to say it to assert themselves.
Of course, sometimes physical fights do occur, and in these cases we teach our students how to defend themselves and neutralize the situation until help arrives without throwing a kick or punch that might escalate the fight instead.
